“His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” written in 1905, is a true gospel classic. It became a signature tune for Ethel Waters and has been recorded by Mahalia Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross – and was used in the sequel to Sister Act.
In 2011 Whitney Houston recorded her own stirring version for the soundtrack of the musical Sparkle. Houston’s single was released in June 2012, just four months after her tragic death at the age of 48.
